70 years of the Eurovision Song Contest! The 3-CD box set ‘Good Evening, Europe!’ celebrates this festive milestone with a unique collection of 62 Dutch Eurovision hits… in another language!
Until 1999, every country sang in its own language at the Eurovision Song Contest. With the possibility of international success, Dutch participants often recorded the song in a foreign translation as well. Those versions in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, or Indonesian remained less well-known or were not even released in our own country.
The 3-CD box set ‘Good Evening, Europe!’ brings together these unique, foreign-language versions of Dutch Eurovision hits in one collection. Most of these versions had not been available since the original Eurovision year. 29 versions make their CD debut in this collection. No other Eurovision country has such an overview on CD.
Ruth Jacott is at peace with ‘Einstein in Reverse’; Willeke Alberti goes searching in ‘Where Is The Sun’; Heddy Lester takes her turn on the ‘Karussel des Lebens’; Teddy Scholten sticks to ‘Un p’tit peu’; Lenny Kuhr sings ‘El Trovador’; Maywood shares everything in ‘No more winds to guide me’, and much more!
The 3-CD box set features 30 Dutch Eurovision hits in English, 14 in German, 11 in French, 2 in Spanish, 2 in Italian, and 1 in Indonesian. Since countries have been allowed to choose their own language since 1999, only Edsilia Rombley (2007) and 3JS (2011) recorded their songs in two versions. These are not missing from this collection either.
The CD booklet was written by Jeroen Smits. Together with Chiel Troost he spoke personally with many Dutch participants for the award-winning podcast series ‘Songfestival Troubadours’.
